About This Film

Rebecca, a recent graduate in her twenties, is waiting for her friend Sophie at a lively bar. During that time, Rebecca encounters Iris, a young woman in a red shirt and a cowboy hat. According to their small talk, they both feel a spark of familiarity they can’t quite place. As Sophie’s ex drives her home with their only car, Iris invites Rebecca to her apartment, where the two spend the night watching Portrait of a Lady on Fire. The following morning, small details in Iris’s apartment—a childhood photo and a cherished plant—recall Rebecca’s memory. The pieces fit together: Iris was once her middle-school classmate, a quiet girl who never spoke to her but always paid attention to her. The story between them had started long before they even noticed. Rebecca learns that Iris’s silence was never hating, but out of shyness. And the plant shows Iris has never really forgotten Rebecca. By revisiting childhood misunderstandings through the clarity of adulthood, the two women confront lost time and explore the chance for intimacy that they missed years ago.
